Cub Scout Raingutter Regatta

I recently judged a race, and examined each boat carefully, and discovered two boats that seemed to do exceptionally well had the keel placed farther back than the others. The secret to keep the boat going straight and fast, and keep from sticking to the sides of the raingutter is to put the keel back against the rudder, rather than having it nearer the mast, as suggested in the instructions. Also, do not bend the lower tips of the sail back - that tends to make blowing tip the boat over, rather than catching the air in a good way.
However, there is still no substitute for strong and aggressive blowing.
