To research these, besides Google, use (my doctor's suggestion) www.pubmed.gov

Hot News

Selenium and Mercury
It has been discovered that Selenium binds to Mercury, fostering the elimination of Mercury from the body. Reference: should we avoid fish because of mercury.

Brain and Memory

Memory Formula
Most of these are too expensive for ordinary people, but here is one that seems right, in case you are able to obtain the ingredients more cheaply. Unfortunately, the optimal amounts are unknown to me:

  • Acetyl L-Carnitine - rebuilds myelin sheath and mitochondria.
  • Alpha-Glycerylphosphorylcholine, aka Alpha-GPC
  • Bacopa monnieri - an herb used by the Rishis. Boosts production of GABA.
  • Phosphatidylserine
  • Vinpocetine, an extract of Periwinkle, increases blood flow to the brain.
  • blueberry
  • ginkgo biloba
  • Luteolin - anti-inflammatory
  • Rutin
One source of these is www.advancedbionutritionals.com, although you might find cheaper sources elsewhere. There is another formula that combines Phosphatidylserine (PS) with docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and calls it "PS-DHA", claiming that it is much more effective than PS alone. It can be obtained via Ultimate Memory Formula.

nicotinamide riboside (NR)
Not yet available as a supplement. This is a miracle variant of Vitamin B3 that is a precursor to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), the only one for neural tissue. It stimulates mitochondria for energy, suppresses SIR2 (so should act as an anti-aging factor), and makes you lean, fit and smart, in spite of a poor diet.

Coconut Oil
Source of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). Produces ketones that damaged brain cells that cannot metabolize glucose well can use instead, actually producing more energy. A low carb, high fat diet does the same. Supposedly cures Alzheimers and other brain diseases.

Vitamin B3/Niacinamide/Nicotinamide
Take a lot of it. Supposed to be safe in large doses. Has been shown to actually reverse Alzheimer's Disease in rats. Supposedly increases intelligence of non-diseased persons.

Phosphatidyl Serine
Good for the entire nervous system. Used as a building block for the sheath around the nerves. May be good for Alzheimer's Disease.

PRL-8-53
This is an experimental brain enhancement drug that studies have shown to significantly improve memory in normal subjects. It may no longer be available.

Vinpocetene
Google it.

Galantamine
Google it.

Prevagen
Google it.

Do NOT Take Lithium compounds, previously recommended
Seems to moderate certain forms of mental illness as well as Alzheimer's Disease. But reportedly damages pineal gland, so don't take it. The damage is related to calcium build-up, fluoride and aluminum.

Cancer and Inflammation

Heat
There are clinics in Germany that cure cancer quickly without chemo, radiation or surgery, by simply giving the patient a fever of 105 degrees Farenheit. Supposedly, President Reagan and other celebrities, as well as officials of the AMA and FDA, have been successfully cured of cancer this way. This method started when one doctor noticed that a patient who had contracted an illness with a high fever was cured of her cancer afterwards.

AHCC (Active Hexose Correlated Compounds)
Take 3 grams/day for 2 weeks, then 1 gram/day thereafter. This is a medicinal mushroom extract that has been processed to make the active molecules smaller and much more available and active in the body. It is not nearly the same as simply eating mushrooms. AHCC increases the activity of cancer killing cells. This probably overcomes the effect of cancer cells that tend to suppress such activity. Used in Japanese hospitals safely and effectively for many years, AHCC has cured 2/3 of prostate cancer patients in a small U.S. sample.

Alpha Lipoic Acid
Rebuilds damaged tissues, notably the liver.

Oregano
Induces apoptosis (cell death) in prostate cancer cells. Oregano oil supposedly also acts as an antibiotic and antihistamine.

Quercetin
Significantly reduces bronchial inflammation and constriction. Quercetin is present in onions and apples.

fucoidin
Studies show that fucoidan, from the seaweed kombu, could be very effective even against chemotherapy-resistant lung cancer, especially when combined with AHCC.

cesium chloride
People who get it in their water don't get cancer, or, if they have cancer, it goes away quickly.

Vitamin D3
Take at least 2600IU/day (most supplements are only 400IU). Best to combine with calcium and magnesium supplements to preserve bone and heart health. Kills cancer cells. Vitamin D3, from animal sources, is stored in the body and can therefore be regulated better and is safer. Vitamin D2, which is made artifically from vegetable sources, does not get stored.

Boron
Take 9 mg/day. Tends to cause cells DNA to revert back to normal. Good for averting radiation damage during conventional therapy. Also greatly reduces inflammation of arthritis.

Turmeric
Take 2 teaspons/day. Supposedly, this is why mid-eastern desert dwellers don't get skin cancer. It also is supposedly the reason that Alzheimer's is much lower in Indian villages than in America, and generally improves mental capacity.

Vitamin C
Take a lot of it (follow others' recommendations). Cancer cells take it up readily, but it takes a lot to kill them.

Sugar Metabolism and Fat Reduction

benfotiamine
Fat soluble form of Thiamine, which regulates the action of insulin. Recommended in addition are Chromium Picolinate and Cinnamon. A new hormone, irisin, when available, should outperform even these.

Chromium Picolinate
Seems to reduce or eliminate those little growths that occur one some people's skin, as well as proven to assist in regulating blood sugar.

Allergies, Arthritis, Colds and Flu, Other
Some of the cancer remedies also apply here.

Cold Remedy: Pelargonium Sidoides
Look for homeopathic cold medicine containing this ingredient. It is a flower from South Africa that knocks out colds cold, or at least significantly reduces duration and severity.

Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid)
Take 500mg twice per day for nasal congestion. A study has found this to be effective. I have been testing this. So far, I have not noticed any easily noticeable effects after a few days.

Magnesium Citrate
Magnesium is good for helping bones to use calcium. It also has been shown to reduce muscle spasms in asthma. I've discovered that it reduces night-time leg cramps and itching.

Cetyl Myristoleate
Seems to cure and prevent arthritis in rats. Recommended for joint problems in horses. Most sources are bovine, but some are vegetarian, using the African Kombu nut.

Serrapeptase
This is an enzyme used by silkworms to dissolve their cocoons when they are ready to come out. It is reputed to be helpful in also dissolving scar tissue and possibly other unwanted accumulations that may clog arteries in the human body. As far as I am concerned, it may have helped me once, but the jury is still out on it. I recommend it, because it has some promise where nothing else does, and it can't hurt.

Beta Sitosterol
The active ingredient in Saw Palmettto berries. Recommended for a healthy prostate. Possibly also good for lowering cholesterol and reducing baldness.

Policosanol
Lowers total cholesterol about 20%, lowers LDL, raises HDL. More effective and significantly cheaper than statins, and tests show that it has no bad side effects. It is derived from sugar cane. Suggested dose: 10 mg to 20 mg per day.

Prolozone
Used in prolotherapy to rebuild joints in older people.

Systene
Recommended by Mom for dry eyes.

Silvion and SilvaKlenz
This is available on request from pharmacies. It is a new antibacterial that should be used to clean wounds. It does not cause resistance to build up, and is effective against the horrible flesh-eating bacteria.

Nasal Congestion Notes
The following homeopathic remedies don't work for me: Nasal Ease, SinuFix. Similisan does not appear to help, but I'll give it some more time, since I bought two bottles. Benzedrex inhaler should never be used - the rebound is strong, and it does not work that well, anyway. Phenylephrine HCL spray does not last the night, otherwise, if used only once per day does not seem to cause that much rebound effect. Anything with Oxymetazoline HCL in it will cause strong rebound effects, however, I can use it for up to one week, if diluted to 50% concentration with saline and used for only one spray each night; after two or three days, a mild rebound starts anyway, and after one week, I need to take at least 2 days off. Saline washes and sprays help, but stay away from those containing Benzalkonium Chloride (practically all non-homeopathic sprays have it) which has been found by studies to cause a mild rebound effect. The only saline you should use is home-made using sea salt. Nasonex and Flonase help, but don't fully do the job and cause nose bleeds. Nasalchrome is useless. There are some sprays containing cayenne pepper that help clear out the sinuses and I recommend them for that, but they don't really ease congestion much. There is one homeopathic spray from the UK containing cinnamon that burns too much and doesn't work, anyway. Oral decongestants containing Phenylephrine HCL don't work. Those containing Pseudoephedrine HCL (which you need to sign for) work somewhat, but not long term and have undesirable side effects. Antihistamine sprays (Astelin, Astepro) help ward off congestion to a point, although they are not decongestants. Conscious connection with the membranes, attempting to open them helps a bit, but it has to be kept up so you can't relax. Acupressure points help a bit, but not long.
